English language is acquired as a foreign language at Gimnasio La Montaña. The school community is a Spanish speaking one where L2 is basically used for learning purposes.  Our goal is to graduate students who are able to understand, speak and write the language competently.  The bilingual program at La Montaña is an enrichment one based on Richard Amato’s ideas.  He states that a semi immersion model in which subject-matters are taught in the garget language could simulate a real immersion situation in the language’s cultural environment.  We believe this approach broadens our students’ cultural horizons and strengthens their linguistic skills.

The majority of our students are at similar levels of proficiency.  Several core subjects including English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Music and Art are taught in English.  The immersion coverage time tries to be maintained around the 50%  of the students’ learning time from Kinder to Middle School.
